Johnny Lingo 8 cow women

March 9th we celebrated our Relief Society birthday party at church with a Johnny Lingo/8 cow woman theme. I made mock airplane tickets as the invitations, & everyone dressed in tropical casual attire. We had Hawaiian Haystacks for dinner with several choices of birthday cake. Then we watched some clips from the movie Johnny Lingo and listened to some wonderful speakers.
We have 2 sisters in our ward who are beautiful hula dancers. Katherine who is originally from New Zealand, and Lavon who is from Tonga. The sisters who were interested, spent 2 months learning 3 different numbers to perform, one was a traditional hula the other two were a fast and a faster Tahitian number. (The fastest one was my favorite!)
It was so much fun and a great way to get to know other sisters in the ward who serve in all the different auxiliaries. After it was over we were lamenting and someone mentioned "what's next learing the poi balls?" I think we might end up performing this summer at the town's "Fair Days" so watch out! :)

My friend Tiffany made this hula girl barbie cake to go with the theme and it turned out so cute! It was a really neat night, but phew, am I glad it is over!

Jame - Every relief society activity you plan has been SO FANTASTIC. Johnny Lingo night was one of the best ever. You ladies were amazing dancers. A-maz-ing. You guys are so talented, can't wait to see you perform at Downtown days. I'll be the one in the front row with the tshirt that says 'biggest fan.'
